The Context

FRI_START Evolution is an international cooperation project carried out within the framework of the Interreg Italy-France Maritime Programme.

One of the objectives of FRI_START Evolution is to develop a digital platform that provides access to a catalogue of incubation and support services for innovative companies operating in the digital, film, culture, entertainment and audiovisual sectors.

FILSE, a Ligurian partner in the project, relies on Liguria Digitale, which chooses Aziona for the development and coordination of two days of collaborative design, a method defined by the FRI_START Evolution project to identify the functions of the platform that will define the user experience.

The Challenge

The first challenge was to engage the working group. The participants came from different sectors and had no previous experience of participatory design. In preparation for the organised workshop, we invited the team to use an analogue tool we had designed and created to help them reflect on the concept of collaboration.

The printable tracker encouraged participants to monitor their interactions with other people and professionals during work and networking activities. Over the course of two workshop days, we coordinated the group and guided them through various design thinking sprints.

Starting with an analysis of the platform users’ needs, we validated a set of basic functions using human-centred design frameworks.

The working group was not only involved in the practical design activities, but also in learning the design thinking methodologies used. The user experience will be built upon these features in the subsequent design phase.

Results

The project stakeholders provided valuable insights and suggestions for the development of the platform. Thanks to the work done, the platform will be built with a bottom-up approach, taking into account the real needs of the target users.
